Fimir - The Súile na Lisaart (so far)

After posting some shots of one and two fimm over the last while, I thought it time for a group shot of how the unit looks so far. There's 13 out of 20 members completed, plus the movement tray. Starting to come together!

There's something missing - can't put my finger on it like another tone is required. I get they are naturalistic in style but still I find my eyes pulled to the weapons or the feet - maybe the eyes need to be a different colour?

    1. This sounds a little silly, but could it be because from the camera angle each of the Fimir seem to be looking downwards, or at least, their jawline is like an arrow aimed downwards? Could that influence where you're looking? I did say it sounded a little silly.
I think they look fantastic myself. Perhaps it's that they have no pupils? Do Fimir even have pupils?

    2. Hey Te Craig. My fimir don't have pupils, and I've never seen any images of fimir with them. I rather like the white pupil-less eyes meself.

  2. The spot colour could be more prominent, for sure. The ley stones some of the fimir carry (the bright blue stones) are intended as the spot colour, but there need to be more. The only one you can really see in the pic is by the standard bearer's foot, though there are several in the unit. I guess trying to stick to a more muted palette has it's pitfalls...

    1. I disagree. My eyes are continually drawn to the teeth. Sure, it's not the same as being drawn to the eyes or the face in general, but they still have me looking in the right place.

  5. Lovely unit you have there, but I agree that it would look even better with more of those bright blue stones.

  6. Cheers, I'll have to convert a few bits and bobs for the next unit. I assumed there would be more stones and such I could paint up for these lads, but not so much,so I'll need to add a few bits. I may stick some leystone chunks sticking up out of the swamp water for the next unit in the front rank on one of two of the models as well.

  7. You don't need a pupil when you have the eye of balefiend!

For anyone interested in reading more about life in the Cursed Marsh, I found some exciting story-based news concerning the Fimir. It was posted here yesterday by one the Black Library authors; http://joshuamreynolds.blogspot.co.uk

  9. Excellent! Cheers Werekin, I'd be very interested in that. Nice that the fimir are reappearing in the GW mythos once again.

  10. Hehe, gloop gloop... looking good! I especially like the way the crows are flying over the filler and the banner, really draws the unit together. Having spent all evening revising and making my Fimir army book look nice it's time to actually get cracking on a few games I reckon! You used yours at all yet? Or are you waiting for them to be all painted up first? :)

  11. Hey Fimm, cheers! Always nice to hear from another fimir obsessive. No games yet, once I finish these lads, Crom, the meargh and the fianna fimm I have the other half of the army to assemble. A ways to go yet...
