Chaos Dwarves - The Destroyer Cometh

There's some work in progress shots out now for the K'daai destroyer from Games Day. These are from Dice and Brush. I have to say, so far I'm not feeling it. I like the head and upper arms, but the hoofyhands and little mechanical legs, not so much. I'm still unsure what it's based on. The fireborn are essentially fire elementals bound into armour, so, what's this guy? Aren't they meant to be cousins, or somesuch?

It's a sight better than the concept illustrations in Tamurkhan though, and as it's still work in progress hopefully it'll be grand once the final release it ready. Then all we need are hobgoblins. You hear me, Forge World? HOBGOBLINS.

But wait? What's this lurking at the back here, looking all very nice indeed? Lammasu baby!

  1. The second shot has some audition pieces in it apparently, so not everything in there is destined for production. The Avatar is one such piece, and given that the Ork boss is nothing like the current aesthetic GW are using for their Orks, I'd imagine he's one too. So I wouldn't get your hopes up about the Lammasu!

    1. You crush me Kelvin. Still, I managed get one of the Raging Heroes Lammasu a while back, so I'm not too distraught. Fingers crossed for the destroyer.

I see what you mean about the ork. I picked up a copy of the old Freebooterz book yesterday, he looks more at home there.

  2. Apperantly this model was described as being "very work in progress". I don't like its legs too (and to be honest I don't know anyone liking them). Upper torso looks as being part of entirely different miniature, lower is just a joke imho.
And regarding this shelf photo - there are some really cool miniatures there (for example genestealer magus) but this was shelf with training miniatures, made not to be release, as part of the GW training program for sculptors. Lammasu is this kind of work too.

    1. I hadn't noticed the magus! Wow, if GW re-did the genestealer coven army, I'd be back into 40k right away. Shame.

  3. Yuck! Do not like. I can see why they want to produce a model but I kinda like the whole "it's not available, make your own" line. GW need to remember the hobby element of their games consists of more than just painting their stock models.

  4. I don't think there is anyone who liked this destroyer mini. not only it lacks the eye candy factor, but also it is very different from the concept art in the Tamurkhan book.

i m so glad that i made my own destroyers after seeing this. and yes, destroyerS... :)

    1. Am also glad that you had one of them professionally painted up to ensure that the models you picked really had the flavour and background required to make it look like a destroyer!

But also not feeling this. At first glance, before reading the text, it felt more like a kit bash than a VWIP shots of a FW model. Let's see how the final one comes out!
