White Dwarf - New Daemon Rules

I must say, I've been enjoying the new weekly white dwarf. It's a nice roundup of what's going on in the realms of Games Workshop for the week. The tone of the magazine seems slightly more casual, whilst obviously still trying to sell you all the things. There just seems a to be a tiiiiiny bit more whimsy in the editorial style, and it's lacking the fevered desperation to shift product that was sadly evident in the monthly. I really didn't like the blurb text on new models in the rebooted monthly. It was a little too heavy on the hard sell.

But I digress. White Dwarf weekly issue 7 contains something I'd been hoping to see for a while now. New rules not available elsewhere. Enter the exalted flamer.

Page 18-19 contain all new rules for using the exalted flamer as a new hero choice (or HQ, if you dig on the 40k) for daemons. No longer bound only to a chariot, the fellow can now be fielded on foot. Or, stump, I guess. Or whatever that flamey mouth thing is he has for feet.

Regardless of the usefulness of the new unit, it's a very good sign that this has appeared in the magazine. Granted, it's rules for an existing model that was essentially useless if you built the kit with the herald, but it's still a move in the right direction. I dearly hope it's not an anomaly, and we get more new rules in the weekly.

Warhammer Fantasy Battle - New FAQs

New WHFB FAQs are up. The curious overrun question for troops with the unstable, daemonic instability, cornered rats or breaking war machine crew rule has been answered once and for all. Also, there has been a definitive statement on one's always failing to wound. Every army bar Wood elves (Aw, poor wood elves) and high elves has been updated.

GW - New Warhammer FAQ's

Some new Warhammer FAQ's up today, see them here.

The new changes are for the rulebook, Daemons, Skaven, Empire and Dwarves. On first glance they are mostly clean-up, the main rules clearing up some magic questions. The Skaven FAQ does state a rider on a bell or furnace now tests separately  if hit by dwellers etc, and in the Empire FAQ the war altar does not pass on stubborn or the ward to the rider.

Warhammer - New FAQ's out

Games Workshop have just released a whole big sackful of FAQ's, with some fairly major changes. The biggest one is the changes to overrun as far as I can see. Now, any unit with the daemonic instability or unstable rule, or war machines failing a break test don't grant an overrun if the unit is destroyed as a result of these rules effects. Massive. I'm very surprised that the ruling went this way, it makes daemons and vampire counts units more powerful, and it's going to be much harder to roll an artillery line. I can see my single spirit hosts getting more table time and small dire wolf units making a triumphant return.

There's a pile more changes, monstrous cavalry now use the monsters toughness, and from the other FAQ's, nice titbits are the banshee can now scream into a combat she's not in, which clears that up. There's also a nice change for the tomb kings in that units with the entombed beneath the sands rule can now choose to deploy normally. Every little helps, I guess.

Get the FAQ's here.

Bad Dice Daily review the FAQ's today on episode 111.
