Fimir - Half Dead Update 4, Glowing Eyes
I've been considering putting a glowing effect into the eyes of the half dead. I had a go at it last night, and I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm still unsure which way to go, however. I do like the way it adds a new focal point to the miniature, and I think I managed to avoid washing out the face putting a pale glow into a light face. There's still a decent amount of contrast, which I don't think would have been the case had I used yellow or red.
So, now I would love some feedback on what ye think. Glow, or no glow?

Glow! always glow. Glowing eyes are cool, and they fit the supernatural nature of the unit.
ReplyDeleteI love the glow. It's just a cool effect always, but especially here where it adds lots of visual interest to the face. I also like the verdigris you added to the helmet.
ReplyDeleteAs the glow effect you've achieved looks so effective I'd go with that.
ReplyDeleteDon't have much call for glowing eyes with the minis I'm painting at the moment but a how-to would be good if you get the time.
No worries. I filled the socket with hawk turquoise mixed with a little flow improver, then some ice blue, mixed with more flow improver. I washed this out past the hawk turquoise and onto the upper cheeks and helmet. Once this was dry, a spot of skull white in the centre.
DeleteI like the glow A LOT. So much so, I don't think you really have a choice here.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. Glow it is!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely glow!
ReplyDeleteBut If I was you, I would make the blue tint a little bit more deep blue, or contrast the skull around the eyes darker. But it's good as is!
I plan on doing a few more testers before I do the second tester, we'll see where it goes...
